True Power Restored

Post  AlexisDavisFanFirst on Fri Jan 02, 2009 10:02 pm

Disclaimer: Of course I own the rights to none of these folks, just borrowing them from the good folks at ABC & GH.

I like to write fanfics & have several but I thought I'd put this one here first, see how it goes over...LOL. This is one I actually started last year but hadn't kept up with it (something I'm going to change...LOL). It starts with the Black and White ball and with Nikolas & Emily being together. This is a story focused on the Cassadines.

***Prologue***

He watched from the shadows as Nikolas & Emily came home from dinner. He looked on as Nikolas wrapped his arms around Emily's waist & spoke softly to her. Whatever he said made Emily laugh & Nikolas himself smile as they waited for the launch. When the launch arrived, Nikolas helped Emily aboard before he got on & they headed for the island. As the launch glided quietly over the lake, he stepped out from the shadows, watching them make their way to Spoon Island. The launch docked, Nikolas got out & helped Emily out then led her into Wyndemere with an arm around her waist. He sighed, concerned.

He'd heard about Nikolas' rash of unprovoked bouts of rage & violence and how Nikolas started losing time. This is what concerned him so greatly & convinced him that it was time to return to Port Charles to take control of things. It was obvious in his mind that Alexis was unable to do so.

Alexis.

Now she was another problem that needed attention altogether. He walked off with the help of his walking stick, heading away from Wyndemere to the Metro Court Hotel.

When he got to the Metro Court, he headed for the restaurant & watched from out of sight as he instantly picked Alexis out in the crowd. She sat there with a notepad in front of her, sitting across from Jerry Jacks. She gave every appearance of being businesslike to anyone who didn't know her. He knew that she claimed Jerry to be "just a client" to anyone who accused otherwise, but he knew. He saw that look in her eyes before & knew that she was interested in more than his case despite her numerous protestations...and he didn't like it. It didn't help things at all that Jerry continued to flirt with & attempt to charm Alexis incessantly. Yes, he knew of Jerry Jacks' exploits since Jerry returned to Port Charles. Jerry Jacks was a career criminal & trouble all the way. She seemed to be attracted to troublesome men...criminals. Sonny Corinthos. Her ex-husband Ric Lansing. Now this Jerry Jacks. Yes, he would need to put a stop to this before it got farther than he liked. He sighed, turned away & headed to the elevator that would take him up to his suite. It was time that this family was back in line & restored to its former greatness & power and he would see to it that it happened immediately & he would have Nikolas & Alexis with him as the three of them claimed the power that rightfully belonged to the three of them in his mind. He knew exactly when & where he would re-emerge & it would be soon. The Black & White ball Nikolas & Emily were hosting at Wyndemere. Yes, that would be perfect. He stepped into the elevator & headed up to his suite, already planning his reveal in his head.

*****CHAPTER 1*****

Nikolas Cassadine walked into the ballroom to inspect the room, his butler Alfred at his side. Nikolas looked around & nodded as he approved of what he saw.

"We have enough champaigne and wine for the evening?", Nikolas asked, needing to confirm this.

"Yes, of course, Master Nikolas. I ordered what I can guess will be more than enough. No hard alcohol at your request. Only the best champaigne & wines to keep this event as elegant as you desire", Alfred told him.

"Very good. Thank you, Alfred. Now, if you can just....", Nikolas started when he stopped suddenly & then walked towards the door. Emily walked into the room wearing a beautiful strapless white silk gown. He greeted Emily, taking both of her hands in his as he reached her. "You look absolutely breathtaking", Nikolas whispered to her, unable to take his eyes off of her.

"Thank you. And you look like a true prince charming yourself", Emily said, smiling at him.

"I just hope everything goes well, that's all", Nikolas said. "I don't want to black out again"

"I'm sure you won't. You seem to have been better lately", Emily reassured him.

They were interrupted by the arrival of Alexis, arriving early in order to offer any help to Nikolas & Emily. She entered wearing a black velvet strapless gown the necklace her mother had given to her. She smiled at the sight of the two of them together.

"You both look perfect. Very much the princess & prince charming", Alexis said, smiling at the couple.

"I was just telling Nikolas the same thing. Well, about how he was the perfect prince charming. And thank you. You look pretty amazing yourself, Alexis.", Emily said & hugged her.

Nikolas kissed her cheek. "She's right. You look beautiful. You're a bit early though, not that I'm complaining. Is everything alright?"

"Everything's fine. I just thought I'd come & see if I could help you prepare for your guests. And I'll be honest, I wanted to make sure you were ok", Alexis told him. "I've been worried about you."

"I appreciate it but everything is taken care of. All we need are the guests. And speaking of guests, what lucky man is escorting you this evening?" Nikolas asked, silently praying that it wasn't Jerry Jacks. Holding it together would be hard enough without him here to set Nikolas off.

"What you see is what you get I'm afraid. I'm here on my own....which is actually lucky for you because I can help you with any hosting duties you wish to delegate while the two of you perhaps share a dance or two & truly enjoy yourselves", Alexis told him.

"Alexis, I really hate that you're here alone. After all you've been through with the cancer, Ric & Sam....", Emily started & then bit her lip. "Sorry. I don't mean any disrespect but its still an adjustment to think of her as your daughter even after a year, and after what she did...well what she & Ric did", Emily said softly.

"Its ok. I understand completely and don't worry about me. I'm perfectly happy. I've been cancer free for months, so I'm feeling better than ever. I have returned to my career & I have a thriving law practice and I'm focusing on my family....my girls & the two of you", Alexis told them.

Nikolas smiled at her. "That means a lot to me. And just so you know, I'm saving a couple of dances for you"

"Nothing would make me happier", Alexis told him as she put her hand to his cheek. She was still concerned with how he'd hold up tonight, but he seemed to be doing well so far. She hoped he would continue to do so.

A couple of hours later, the ballroom was filled with guests wearing masks. People talking, dancing & drinking. People generally having a good time. Alexis was pleased to notice that there was no sign of the angry Nikolas anywhere. He was charming, pleasant & the perfect host. He even started the evening perfectly with a marriage proposal to Emily, a proposal Emily happily accepted. Alexis was the first to congratulate them & to propose a toast to them. She watched proudly as they danced together, unable to take their eyes off of one another.

Alexis was taken by surprise as she felt someone's arm slip around her waist & guide her along to the dance floor. She looked up to see Jerry Jacks looking down at her, his blue eyes crinkled as he smiled at her. Even behind the mask, she recognized his mischief filled eyes. As he got her to the dance floor, he kept his arm around her waist & took her hand in his.

"I hope you don't mind. I've been watching you all night & the fact that such a ravishing woman is here alone is criminal. As you know, that's something I know a little something about", he teased her with a soft laugh. "And I decided to remedy that immediately. And in case you missed it, you do look absolutely ravishing, Alexis.

"Thank you. And this is a bad idea, Jerry. Do you have any idea what people will think? Do you know how upset Nikolas will be if he sees us dancing?"

"You know, Alexis, you spend a lot of time mention ing what "people" will say & think and how Nikolas will feel & react but in all of your suppositions, I have never once heard you mention what you think & feel about the possibility of you & I. So tell me, my dear. Forget the rest of Port Charles & even your nephew & tell me what you think.", Jerry said, urging her on.

Alexis caught herself looking up at him a bit longer than she knew was appropriate. It was only a split second, but to Alexis it seemed like an eternity. She tore her gaze away from him & cleared her throat to speak.

"Like I said, its not a good idea. You're my client & its just not good business to bring a client into my personal life", she told him.

Jerry sighed. "You're overthinking things, something you always seem to do. For god's sake, stop thinking & just feel for once", he told her then gently took her face in his hands & kissed her lingeringly. He felt resistance in her at first, then surrender....then actual participation. He then slowly, reluctantly broke away from the kiss & smiled down at her. "You see how wonderful it can be to simply feel instead of analyze?", he said softly to her.

Unbeknownst to Alexis, Nikolas witnessed the the kiss & was incensed. He started to go to Jerry & Alexis to break it up when Emily grabbed his arm.

"Let it go, Nikolas. I know how you feel about Jerry but please, just let it go tonight, ok?", she said, glanced at the pair & then back at Nikolas. "Besides, its been far to long since she's had that much color in her cheeks", she said with a soft laugh.

Nikolas turned to look down at Emily with a sigh. "Ok...ok, I will let it go. For the record, I'm not happy about it, but I'm going to let it go."

"Thank you. And for that, I think you deserve a reward", Emily teased as she reached up, put her arms around Nikolas & kissed him deeply.

Back over where Jerry & Alexis stood, Jerry offered Alexis a glass of champaigne which she graciously accpeted. He kissed her hand, promised to be right back & went to get the champaigne. As she waited, another masked figure approached her. He took her by the hand & led her to the dance floor. She looked over in the direction that Jerry went & then let the new partner lead her to the floor.

"Ok but only for a moment though. My escort will be returning soon", she said, though Jerry wasn't truly her escort....but not knowing who this man was she thought it was safest to allow him to believe that she & Jerry were there together.

"And here I thought he was nothing more than a client", the man behind the mask said to her in a hushed tone.

Alexis looked up at him. That voice was familiar but he spoke too low for her to be able to positively identify it.

"Unless you are Nikolas or Jax, that really isn't your call to make, is it? Its my business & not yours, so I'd appreciate it if you didn't judge me when you don't know me or my situation", Alexis said, irritated that this man was making such judgement calls.

"Oh but you are mistaken. It most certainly is my business, more than you realize", he told her.

"Is it now? I'd love to know how that could be", Alexis challenged.

"I'm happy tell you how. You see, its my place to protect you & it always has been....Natasha", the man said softly & lifted his mask to reveal his face.

The room spun, then went black & her knees buckled as Alexis fainted into the arms of her new dance partner after seeing his face, the face of a ghost of the past.

The face of her late brother Stefan.

***Chapter 2***

Jerry heard what had sounded like a collective gasp coming from the direction of the dance floor. He turned to look in curiosity & saw a group gathering and then saw Nikolas & Emily running to the floor as well. For a split second, he saw what appeared to be a man laying Alexis on the floor. Alarmed he asked the bartender for a bottle of water instead of the champaigne he asked for & as soon as he had it, he grabbed a cloth napkin & ran to the floor himself. Jerry moved his way through the crowd as quickly as he could to get to Alexis' side. He got there to find a bearded man holding her hand & patting it softly, something he found he didn't like one little bit.

"Who are you & what the hell have you done to Alexis?", Jerry demanded as he opened the bottle & poured a little of the water onto the napkin. He then gently began to touch the damp napkin to Alexis' forehead & neck to revive her.

Before Stefan could answer, Nikolas & Emily made it to the commotion & stopped dead as Stefan looked up at them.

"Oh my god. How...how in the hell is this possible? You're dead", Nikolas stammered in shock.

"We will discuss this later when you, Alexis & I have some privacy", Stefan insisted.

"If you believe for one moment that I will leave her alone with you, you've taken leave of your senses", Jerry insisted.

"It is not for you to decide, this is a family matter. I am her brother", Stefan snapped back at him.

"Oh really? Which one? The psychotic who along with his mother relentlessly tortured her thorughout her entire life or the psychotic who disowned her & then treated her like a second class citizen until he was killed doing some third rate Phantom of the Opera impersonation?", Jerry snapped back at him.

"Alexis has always had trouble with keeping her heart to herself as she should. Regardless, you have no say, this is none of your business & you are dismissed", Stefan told him.

"If she dismisses me, then I shall leave but not one moment before", Jerry insisted.

Alexis groaned softly as she started to come to under a combination of Jerry's ministrations to her & hearing the loud arguing coming from both men. She opened her eyes to see Jerry smile faintly in relief to see her awake, then to see Stefan's concerned face looking down at her. She attempted to sit up but struggled to do so. Jerry put the bottle of water aside, took her hand in his & put his free arm around her to help her sit up.

"Are you alright, darling?", Jerry asked softly.

"I think so, thank you Jerry", Alexis said softly.

Stefan & Nikolas both scoffed at Jerry's attentions towards Alexis. Jerry glanced at them, giving them both a look of warning as he helped Alexis to her feet when he witnessed her attempts to stand up. He kept his arm around her for a moment.

"Feeling a little more steady now are you?", Jerry asked her.

"I am, thank you", she said & looked to Stefan. "How the hell are you here & why did you allow us to believe you dead for all of this time?" Alexis demanded of her brother.

"Like I told Nikolas, it is for the three of us to discuss", Stefan said & threw a glare Jerry's way. "Alone"

"Hey! Don't do that. Jerry, for all of his misgivings & yes, I'm aware that there are many, has treated me better than any man I've ever known. He's also been very good to Kristina & that won big points with me", Alexis told her brother.

Jerry couldn't help but smirk at her side, appreciating her defending him. "Thank you, darling, I do appreciate the words. I knew I made the right choice in attorney"

"Jerry, you honestly had no choice, we were just kind of thrust upon each other. That being said....there is definitely a discussion you & I need to have very soon", she told him.

"I look forward to it", he told her, smiling at her.

"I'm sure this is all very fascinating to someone somewhere but not to me. You, Nikolas & I need to have a discussion of our own & I won't be doing it with an audience. Not even an audience of one.", Stefan said.

"Well, this party has apparently come to a halt. I'll make my apologies to our guests & we will reschedule when we this can be completed. If you'll excuse me", Nikolas said. He glanced over at Jerry. "Believe me, you will not offend me in the least if you're the first one out the door."

"I'm certain I won't', Jerry muttered as he watched Nikolas go off to close the party. He put a hand on the small of Alexis' back & led her aside. "Alexis, this is your decision, ok? I won't leave if you wish for me to stay. I can assure you that it takes more than the likes of your nephew & your formerly dead brother to intimidate me. I'm here if you need me."

Alexis smiled at him. "I appreciate it, truly I do. It means a lot to me that you are so willing to take care of me & protect me the way you just did. Thank you for that. But the truth of the matter is, I do need to speak with Stefan & Nikolas privately, ok? I promise you that we will have that talk. Perhaps over coffee in the morning?"

"Can I coax you into an entire breakfast with me perhaps?", Jerry asked, grinning at her.

Alexis laughed softly. "Ok, breakfast. I will meet you at the Metro Court around eight tomorrow morning then?", she said.

"I look forward to it. Will you do me one favor?", he asked her seriously.

She saw that all humor had left his eyes & she nodded. "Of course. What can I do for you?"

"Call me when you're done speaking with them & let me know you're ok", he said.

"You have my word. Now, why don't I show you out personally", Alexis offered.

"Hmmm, let's see. Escorted but an elderly butler or a beautiful woman?", he teased again, smiling at her.

She laughed softly as she got his coat & escorted Jerry to the door. "I truly enjoyed myself with you tonight. I didn't get to say it before but thank you for the dance."

"My pleasure completely. I will speak with you later & see you tomorrow. Goodnight, Alexis", he said. He leaned forward, kissed her cheek & then smiled at her before leaving to go home.

Alexis returned to the main ballroom to find everyone had gone with the exception of Stefan & Nikolas.

"Please come with me to the den. I wish to keep this completely private", Stefan told them & walked ahead of them to the den.

Alexis & Nikolas looked at each other with a combination of concern & confusion on their faces. Nikolas then gestured for Alexis to walk ahead of him. She nodded & followed Stefan, Nikolas right behind her. When they were both in the den & seated, Stefan closed & locked the door behind her before sitting across from them.

"I'm going to tell you where I've been & why I've kept myself concealed but I can sum it up in once sentence. The Cassadine empire is in dire jeopardy and its going to take all three of us working together to save it.", he announced grimly.

"How is it in jeopardy?", Alexis asked him.

"Helena is on the move and on her way here....and she's bringing other maverick Cassadines with her. Unless we stop her, the Cassadine empire as we know it will cease to exist, that much I can assure you both. We have to prepare now or we will lose everything including quite possibly our lives", Stefan said as he got up & fixed himself a drink.
