A/N #2: Based on rumors on the 'net before Ian died on the show.
CHAPTER 1
It was two days before the wedding, and Sam was a bundle of nerves. She shook her head, shrugged, and with a small laugh, thought, "What the hell do I have to be nervous about?" The question reverberated in Sam's head. As if she didn't know the answer. The "good" doctor never failed to remind her just why it was so important she go through with this sham; not to mention making it look real.
She looked around her living room, making sure nothing was out of place. She had two days to make sure the wedding went off without a hitch, she had no time for other distractions. It wouldn't be easy either, especially since this wedding was rather out of the blue. She'd had just a few short weeks to pull everything together while making their relationship look believable, especially the rushing into marriage part. Marrying Ian. Ian Devlin. "Doctor" Ian Devlin...her mother was so proud. Then again, why wouldn't she be? Alexis actually believed the lies that poured from the dark Dr. D. And she'd never learn the truth; Sam refused to put Alexis in any danger.
But it wasn't fair! Sam had thought Ian was a good guy; even now, she saw glimpses of that man. That's why when she accidentally let Jake's real paternity slip, Sam was sure Ian would keep his mouth shut. And if Sam was going to be completely honest, he did; but she wasn't sure he wouldn't blow everyone's life apart at any moment. Sam didn't know which Ian was real: the good doctor or the evil criminal.
Had she known then what she knows now, she would've kept her mouth shut. And her legs.
It doesn't help knowing he's good in bed; it only makes matters worse. She slept with him during a moment of weakness, a time of vulnerability, thanks to Lucky and his obsession with all things Liz. And the sex was AMAZING! She didn't regret it at the time, how could she? But Sam knew Ian wanted a "real" marriage, he had made it clear that the "in name only" part of the deal wouldn't last forever. And she wasn't sure what she wanted. Well, she knew she didn't want to be married, but she wasn't sure how long she could resist Ian. And it'd be much easier if Ian didn't know EXACTLY what butttons to push.
"Put it out of your head, Sam," she thought to herself. "I know he's gorgeous, witty, charming, funny...Crap! Where was I going with this? Oh yeah, he may be great on a lot of levels, but he's also proved he's dangerous. Been there, done that, didn't even get a stinkin' t-shirt...just an ugly scar."
Besides, Sam had bigger worries; she had to convince everyone that she loved Ian and vice versa. Otherwise, people might guess the true reason they were marrying, and all hell would break loose if that happened. And people were already questioning her. Lucky decided he didn't believe her when she ended it with him, or all the other times he'd tried to talk to her. Nik was acting strangely, and Alexis vacillated between euphoria (that Sam had found a good guy) and anxiety (over how fast the couple was moving).
At least she had Maxie on her side. Maxie knew something was up, but she didn't push, and supported Sam whole-heartedly. Alexis did as well, to be fair, she thought. But Alexis was having trouble getting past her joy at her eldest daughter marrying a doctor to worry overmuch. Hell, she'd even agreed to walk Sam down the aisle!
Sam shook her head, trying to clear it. "I have way too much to deal with right now," she realized. "I can't let unimportant stuff get in the way of keeping people safe."
Just then, a knock sounded at the door.

Chapter 2
Sam walked towards the door. "Ok, here we go," she thought. "Curtain up, happy bride." Sam opened the door.
"Nik!" she exclaimed. "What are you doing here?"
"May I come in?" Nik asked.
"Of course," she said. "So, what's on your mind?"
"I just wanted to see if you need anything," Nik replied.
"That's sweet, but no," Sam said. "Between Maxie and Alexis, everything's falling into place. A phone rang. "Oh, that's me!" Sam realized. She checked the caller ID on her cell. "I'm sorry, Nik, I have to take this. It's Maxie, probably with some wedding stuff."
"It's fine," Nik assured Sam. Sam flashed Nik a smile and answered her phone. "Hey Maxie, what's up?"
"Hi Sam! Just wanted to let you know your dress is safe and sound at my house," Maxie said.
"Thanks, hon," said Sam.
"No problem, it's in my room, no way it'll be seen by your fake-"
"Maxie!" Sam said warningly. Nik looked sharply at Sam, but she ignored him.
"Okay, okay, sorry," Maxie apologized.
"No, you're not!" Sam retorted.
"You're right," Maxie admitted with a laugh.
"We'll discuss this later, Maxie. We're still on for lunch, right?" Sam asked.
"Yup, I'll see you at Kelly's in a little while," Maxie confirmed.
"Okay, bye!" Sam said.
"Bye!"
"I'm sorry, Nik, lots to do and no time to do it," Sam apologized.
"I understand. Don't worry about it, truly," Nik said.
"Alright. Now, why don't you tell me why you're really here?" Sam said, pinning Nikolas with her gaze.
"Can't I simply want to visit my cousin before she gets married?" He asked disingenuously.
"Of course, but something tells me that's not the reason you're here." Sam replied.
"You're right," he admitted. "I'm worried about you, Sam."
"Why?" she asked.
"You're marrying a man you barely know, Sam." he said. Don't you think you are rushing into this?"
"Nik, this is my life. I'm doing what I want to do," Sam said.
"But why so quickly? Couldn't you move in together first, or extend your engagement?" Nik asked. "You have to understand that this seems oddly swift to the people who love you."
"Nik, when you know what you're doing is right, why wait?" Sam returned.
"What's really going on, Sam? The truth." Nik was getting angry.
"What do you mean?" It was Sam's turn to try her and at disingenuous.
"You're rushing headlong into this marriage, saying you're doing 'what is right'!" he shouted.
"Nik, it's simple. When you know, you know. I know this is right, that this is what I want. So why are you fighting this so much?" she yelled.
The door opened. "What are you two fighting about?" Ian asked as he walked into Sam's apartment.
"It's not important. What are you doing here, Ian?" Sam inquired.
"I'm visiting my beautiful bride, of course; especially since I won't be able to tomorrow. Bad luck and all," Ian said with a smirk. "And you, Nikolas? Why are you here? You wouldn't be trying to talk Sam out of marrying me, would you?"
"Of course not, Ian," Sam answered. "Nik was just trying to convince me to let him walk me down the aisle. But as I told my cousin, I refuse to put him in the middle between Lucky and myself."
"Are you sure?" Nik asked, playing along.
"Of course," Sam said. "Besides, you'll still be there, and I don't want to disappoint Alexis. Or myself, to be honest; I'm looking forward to her escorting me."
"Well, I have some business to attend," Nik said, preparing to leave. "I know you'll be a beautiful bride, I'll talk to you later, Sam," he said as he left, closing the door behind him.
"Bye Nikolas" Sam said and turned back to Ian. "What do you want?" she sneered.
"I thought that was obvious, Samantha," Ian answered with a smirk. "I want you." He stepped closer to her. "I want you, Sam," Ian repeated, pulling her to him. Her right hand rested on his shoulder, settling there, hesitantly, her dark eyes looked into his. "Only you. And I will have you." He grasped her face in one hand, bent down, and kissed her.

Chapter 3
Sam couldn't help herself, she responded; then she pulled out of his arms. "What do you think you're doing?" She asked angrily.
"Just letting you know where I stand, Samantha," Ian stated.
"Please! Like I can trust that!" Sam scoffed. If you meant it, we wouldn't be getting married like this."
"Like this? Does that mean-"
"Don't get your hopes up, buddy! You know exactly what I meant. And stick to the subject." Sam snarled.
"Whoa, easy! I've already told you this marriage has to happen for my own protection. After all, how could I woo you from jail?" He asked with a raised brow. "Besides, I want you, and now, I'll have you."
Sam rolled her eyes. "If you think I'm that easy, you're wrong."
"I never said that, but you have to admit, we have a connection," Ian prodded.
"A connection isn't enough; especially when I'm pretty sure you'll be bad for me," Sam admitted.
"Give it time, Samantha. You'll see what I already know," Ian replied. "I have to leave you, I have some...things to take care of before the wedding. I'll see you later, Samantha." Ian kissed her cheek and made his way to the door.
"Goodbye, doctor," Sam replied, closingthe door behind him. "Ugh," she thought. "This sucks, what the hell am I going to do?"
"First things first: I need to run some errands before I meet Maxie." Sam grabbed her jacket, wallet and keys, and exited her apartment.
********************************************************************
At the hospital, Ian strode into Nikolas' office.
"I'm busy," Nikolas said. "What do you want?"
Ian closed the door.
"I don't appreciate you trying to ruin my wedding to your cousin."
"Pardon me, but I don't know what you mean," Nik replied.
"Nice try. At Sam's apartment today, you were trying to talk her out of marrying me," accused Ian.
"No, I wasn't, and you've already threatened me. So why are you here? Do you really feel the need to repeat yourself?" Nik inquired.
"No, I trust we understand each other," Ian returned with a smirk. "In fact, I'm sure of it. I have rounds, I'll be seeing you, Nikolas." Ian swiftly exited, heading to the elevator.
"What should I do?" Nik asked himself.
********************************************************************
Sam walked into Kelly's; she scanned the inside and saw Maxie sitting at one of the tables. Sam walked over and sat down.
"Hey Maxie!" she said.
"Hi Sam, how are you?" Maxie asked.
"Peachy keen, you?" Sam replied quickly.
"I'm fine, but you need to dial it back, hon," Maxie said. "You aren't the annoyingly perky type, so if you want people to believe this sham of a marr--
"Maxie, not here!" Sam interrupted with a glare.
"Sorry, but this conversation isn't over," Maxie warned.
"Fair enough," said Sam.
"Change of subject. Everything's set for the wedding," Maxie announced. "Church, reception, flowers, MY dress...all taken care of."
"Thanks, Maxie, you're the best." Sam said.
"I know. What else needs to be done?" she asked.
"Not much. Ian and I have our rings; Alexis took care of Kristina and Molly's dresses, as well as her own, and has the decorations in hand." Sam informed Maxie. "I have a couple more errands to run, but it looks like a ll the pre-stuff is done."
"Uh, not quite, Sam," Maxie said with a sly grin.
"What are you talking about?" Sam asked.
"Well, there's tomorrow night...Duh!" Maxie exclaimed. "I'm taking you out for a bachelorette party! Ok, well, more like just the two of us, but that's okay."
"You don't have to do that, Maxie," said Sam.
"I want to, it'll be fun!" Maxie reassured Sam. "I'm your best friend and your maid of honor, you won't talk me out of it. I'll be at your place at 7pm tomorrow, and we'll get the party started!"
"Sounds good to me!" Sam agreed.
"Now, let's order already. I'm starved!" Maxie replied.
"Mmm, me too."
End Chapter 3

Chapter 4
Sam returned home, put away her packages, and sighed. "I need a nap." She made her way to the bedroom and drifted off to sleep on her bed. Two hours later, the phone rang.
"Hello," Sam said, her voice husky with sleep.
"Hello, Sam, did I wake you?" Ian asked.
"As a matter of fact, you did," she replied. "Why are you calling?"
"We're having dinner at the Metro Court tonight. Be ready at 7." Ian ordered.
"Excuse me? Since when are we having dinner?" Sam snapped.
"We're engaged, Samantha," Ian replied calmly. "I thought having dinner tonight would be appropriate with the wedding around the corner. And, to avoid bad luck, we won't see each other tomorrow," he added, sarcasm evident in his voice.
"One, bad luck's inevitable: and you know why. And two, I don't appreciate being told what to do," Sam returned angrily.
"I'm sorry, Sam," Ian said.
"Yeah, right, so not sincere," Sam replied.
"You need to do this, Sam," Ian said, beginning to lose his temper.
"YOU need to understand something, Doctor Devlin!" Sam retorted. "You once told me that blackmail doesn't work on you. Well, I don't take orders. Remember that."
"Point taken. Very well," he said with a sigh. "Will you have dinner with me tonight, Samantha?"
"Sure. Pick me up at 7." Sam replied pertly.
Ian laughed. "Is it really that simple?"
"No, but politenes goes a long way, buster," Sam said. "And you're right about people's expectations of a happy couple."
"You're actually admitting I'm right?" Ian questioned Sam.
"Don't push your luck, buddy. Just be here at 7." Sam said, hanging up the phone.
"Ugh!" Sam flopped back on the bed. "Dinner at the Metro Court. What the hell am I going to wear?" she wondered. "Crap! I'm gonna have to be nice to him; especially after that speech I gave him. Well, maybe I still can be a little snarky." Sam rose and headed to the bathroom to take a shower. Ian would be there in a little over an hour and she need to get ready.
********************************************************************
Jason strode into his penthouse, tossing his keys on the desk by the door. He shuffled through the mail, setting everything aside except a cream-colored envelope addressed to Spinelli.
"Spinelli," Jason called. Spinelli came hurtling down the stairs.
"Yes, Stone Cold?" Spinelli inquired.
"You have mail," Jason replied, handing Spinelli the envelope. Spinelli opened it and read the contents.
"Well?" Jason prodded.
"Oh, uh...it's an invitation to the Goddess' forthcoming nuptials," Spinelli said.
"Oh," Jason said, slightly surprised. "Why did she invite you? I didn't know you two remained so close."
"The Goddess has always been kind to me," Spinelli answered honestly.l "But the Junior Fashionista is her maid of honor, and has asked me to escort her. I guess she asked the Goddess to send me official welcome. Did you not also receive an invitation?"
"No, I doubt Sam would want me there," Jason admitted. "Go and have a good time."
"I will send your felicitations to the happy couple, Stone Cold," Spinelli responded.
"I'm going out in a little bit, Carly wants me to meet her for a drink at the Metro Court," Jason said. "Translation: she wants something from me. Go ahead and order yourself something for dinner, I may be out late."
"Will do, Stone Cold," Spinelli assured Jason. "Give my salutations to the Valkyrie!"
********************************************************************
Sam put her second earring in. She checked her makeup and hair in the mirror, catching a stray lock behind her ear. She heard a knock at the front door, grabbed her purse off the vanity, and went to let Ian in.
"Hi Sam," Ian said.
"Hi, come in," Sam replied. "Would you like a drink?"
"Thanks, Scotch neat, please.
"Coming right up," Sam said, setting down her purse and moving to the bar. "How are you?"
"What's this?" Ian asked. "You're being nice to me. Why?"
"I'm practicing," Sam snarked, handing him his drink.
"Well done, almost believable," Ian joked.
Sam laughed. "Thank you," she said as she took a sip of her own drink. "What time are we due at the Metro Court?"
"Our reservations are for 8." Ian answered. "I thought we could finalize a few things before we go."
"What things?" Sam asked.
"Like making sure you actually show up for the wedding," Ian said.
"And her I thought we weren't going to fight. Silly me," Sam retorted.
"Sam, I have to cover my bases; I would think you'd understand that." Ian snapped heatedly.
"And I would think you'd trust your blackmail," Sam jeered in return.
"Fine, Sam. I believe you. There's something else, and you won't be happy," Ian admitted.
"Just tell me," Sam said.
"We need to be more affectionate in public," Ian said. "We had such a 'whirlwind courtship, there haven't been many PDAs."
"Fine, I can handle that. But don't go overboard or I'll sock you," Sam said teasingly.
"Fair enough, " Ian replied.
"Anything else, doctor?" Sam asked.
"No, I think that should cover it," Ian said with a slight smile.
"Let's get out of here, then," Sam said.
"Good idea."
They finished their drinks and set down their glasses. Sam grabbed her wrap, Ian his coat, and they departed.

Chapter 5
Sam walked through the lobby of the MetroCourt, Ian by her side, his hand resting gently against the small of her back. As they made their way to the elevator, Ian leaned in. "Don't forget to smile," he whispered.
"My facial expression is just fine," she whispered back with a hint of anger.
"You're supposed to be happy and in love," he said as they entered the elevator.
"As someone told me earlier today: I'm not the annoyingly perky type," Sam replied. "So back off!" As the elevator carried them to the dining room, Sam recalled the "no snarking" policy she'd instituted. She chuckled. If only we'd followed the same rule during our first meal here, she thought to herself, remembering how that fateful date came to be...
Flashback:
Sam stood in disbelief. "What the hell did you just say?" she asked angrily.
"I said if Jason Morgan wants to know something, tell him to ask me himself; instead of sending you in to whore for him." Ian retorted.
Sam slapped him.
"I am not a whore! And if I were, I sure as hell would charge more than some information for an ex," Sam said.
"Really?" Ian inquired, sarcasm evident in his voice. "You're talking, no, flirting, with me because you're truly interested? No hidden agenda?"
"None," Sam stated firmly.
"Then prove it, have dinner with me tonight," Ian challenged.
"Fine, just name the time and place," Sam rejoined.
"Seven o'clock, MetroCourt," he said.
"I'll see you at seven, then," Sam replied, walking away.
END Flashback
"Actually, that date wasn't half bad," Sam mused as the elevator doors opened. "Maybe this one won't be so bad, either."
The hostess approached the couple, and, after a short word with Ian, led them to a table. Ian seated Sam, then took his own chair. The two perused the menu, ordering drinks when the waitress arrived.
"So, Samantha, is everything set for the wedding?" Ian asked as the waitress left to place their order.
"Of course. You have the rings and your tux, everything else is done," Sam replied. "But you know this, so why are you asking?"
"Because it's what would be expected," Ian said. "I thought we could get other people's expectations out of the way."
"Good idea," Sam said, breaking off as the waitress delivered their wine. "Any other expectations?" she inquired archly.
"Smile," Ian ordered.
"Give me something to smile about!" she retorted.
"Is that an invitation?" Ian smirked.
Sam shook her head with a laugh, "No."
"At least you're smiling now," Ian observed.
"True. Back to my question," Sam prodded.
"Ah, yes, I think we've covered that. And, frankly, I'd rather discuss something else," Ian replied.
Just then, the waitress brought their food. They thanked her and dug in. As she ate, Sam's eyes wandered around the room. She was about to ask Ian a question when she heard the elevator ding and open. Jason stepped out.
"Oh great," Sam thought. "Just what I didn't need," Jason saw Sam and Ian having dinner and began to walk over to their table.
"Jason!" Carly called. Jason looked over at Carly, who was frantically waving to him. He switched directions to meet her at the bar.
"That was a close one," Sam muttered.
"Whatever do you mean, Samantha?" Ian asked archly.
"Let's just say Jason isn't thrilled about our upcoming nuptials." Sam replied with a smirk.
"Why not?" asked Ian.
"He doesn't trust you, not that it matters," she added. "It's not like I trust you. But Jason's suspicious because we're marrying so quickly."
"Is that all?" Ian scoffed. "I thought it was something serious."
"Yes, but if Jason decides to get nosy, he could cause problems," Sam said honestly. "When he wants something, he's like a dog with a fucking bone."
"I wouldn't worry, we'll be married the day after tomorrow; after thatt, he can't do anything," Ian stated confidently.
"I know you think you can outwit him, Ian, but don't underestimate Jason," she warned.
"Aww, I knew you cared," Ian teased.
Sam laughed. "Just keep your nose clean until the wedding."
"I'll do what I can," Ian promised.
"Good. Now, we have one more thing to discuss," Sam stated.
"What's that?" Ian asked.
"Well, we've talked about other people's expectations, now we need to discuss our own." Sam explained.
"I didn't realize you'd spent so much time pondering our marriage, Samantha," Ian said.
"I like to be prepared," Sam replied.
"I didn't know you were a Girl Scout," Ian said, tongue-in-cheek.
"Sam laughed loudly. "Never a Girl Scout, far from it, in fact," she said with a grin.
Sam's laugh drew Jason and Carly's gaze.
"Wow, I guess they are real," Carly commented.
"I don't know, Carly," Jason replied.
"Are you okay, Jason?" Carly asked.
"Not really," he said.
"What's wrong? Is it those two? What did Sam do?" Carly asked, getting fired up.
"Nothing, Carly. Sam didn't do anything," Jason assured her. "I just never thought I'd see the day that Sam married another man."
"Oh, Jason," Carly commiserated. "You aren't going to the wedding, are you?"
"No, I wasn't invited. And even if I had been, I wouldn't go." Jason stated.
"I can't believe Sam didn't invite you," Carly whined.
Jason looked at Carly oddly. "I doubt she wants her ex at her wedding, Carly,"
"Maybe she just assumed you didn't want to attend," Carly said.
"I doubt it. Just drop it, Carly. I'll be fine," Jason said.
"I'm going over there," Carly said as she stood.
"No, you aren't. Stay out of it, Carly. I mean it," Jason replied. "I made my choices and Sam made hers. Leave it alone." Jason rose and headed to the elevator. As he wiated, his eyes couldn't help being drawn towards Sam. He watched her smile and laugh, the way her eyes lit up as she flirted, and he remembered. Luckily, the elevator arrived quickly, and he left the MetroCourt, hoping to escape his memories as easily.
Back upstairs, Ian smiled at Sam. "Well, that was interesting. But I believe we have more important things to focus on." he asked.
"We do," Sam replied simply.

Chapter 6
"Are you finished eating?" Ian inquired.
"Random change of subject much?" Sam said curiously.
"No, I simply thought we could take this conversation elsewhere, somewhere more private." Ian replied. "That is if you're done with your meal."
"Yeah, I'm done. Let's deal with the check and get out of here, " Sam answered.
"Are we going to fight over the check again?" Ian asked. They looked at each other and snickered, remembering the end of their first date.
Flashback:
The waitress put the tray with the bill on the table. Ian reached for the bill as Sam snatched it away, peering at it.
"What do you think you're doing?" Ian asked.
"I thought it would be obvious. I'm seeing how much I owe for the meal," Sam said calmly.
"Give me that," Ian snapped, trying to grab the check.
"No!" she snapped back. "I'm paying my own way."
"The hell you are! I invited you to dinner, I pay," Ian retorted. Sam ignored Ian and dug in her purse for the appropriate money.
"You did NOT ask me to dinner, you asked me to prove myself," said Sam. "I proved myself, now, I'm ready to pay for my food and go home." She dropped her money on the table, preparing to rise.
"Wait, Sam," Ian stopped her. "Let me take you home at least."
"I'm perfectly capable of getting home on my own, thank you very much!" Sam replied, turning on heel and heading for the elevator. "Frankly, I'm done with this."
Ian dropped some bills on the table and hurried after Sam. He ducked into the elevator as the doors began to close.
Ian started to speak, "I-."
"Don't even start," Sam warned.
"I overreacted. I'm sorry," Ian said, raising his hands. "That's all I wanted to say."
Sam looked over at Ian and rolled her eyes with a small chuckle. "I'm not going to attack you, you can put your hands down. Apology accepted...I might've reacted a little strongly myself."
"So, you'll allow me to escort you home?" Ian inquired.
"Might as well," Sam responded.
********************************************************************
Ian walked Sam to her front door. Sam turned to Ian. "Thanks, it was almost fun."
"What? No invitation inside for a drink?" Ian asked with a smirk.
"No. The evening didn't go that well," Sam retorted.
"Touche." Ian said. "Perhaps, then, we should simply end like this."
He pulled Sam close, and kissed her passionately. Sam responded instantly as Ian's tongue parted her lips. She pulled him closer, her hands holding on for dear life. They kissed for a moment longer before Sam pulled away with regret.
"Did it change your mind?" Ian inquired huskily.
"Not about whether to invite you in," Sam admitted.
"Then, I'll be a gentleman, this once," Ian said. He bent down and gently kissed Sam on the lips. "Go on inside and lock your door, I want you safe."
Sam smiled. "I did have some fun tonight, Ian. Goodnight."
"Goodnight, Samantha," Ian replied as Sam slipped through her apartment door. Ian waited until he heard the lock engage, then went home.
END FLASHBACK
"No, Ian," Sam said, pulling herself out of a pleasant memory. "I don't believe I'll wrassle you for the check this time."
"Darn, that could've been fun," Ian replied. They laughed. Ian quickly paid and they left the dining area.
"Why don't you come over to my place?" Sam suggested as the pair rode the elevator down to the lobby.
"Why, Ms. McCall, are you propositioning me?" Ian asked with feigned astonishment.
"No, I thought my place would be private enough for our private conversation." Sam said, adding a "Smartass" under her breath.
"I heard that," Ian said in a sing-song voice. Sam snorted. "I'd love to join you for an after-dinner drink, Sam."
"Yes, you drive me to drink as well," Sam deadpanned.
"That's not what I mea-" Ian paused and looked at Sam, realizing whe was joking. "Never mind."
Sam laughed as they reached the lobby. "Let's get out of here."
********************************************************************
Sam opened her apartment door and turned on the light.
"Come in, Ian, and shut the door," she said.
"Yes, ma'am," Ian replied with a snappy salute. Sam smiled and moved to the bar, pouring herself a whiskey.
"What would you like?" she asked Ian.
"You." Ian stated.
"Be serious," Sam chided.
"I am," Ian replied.
"Ian, you know what I mean," said Sam.
"Fine. Bourbon neat, if you have it." Ian requested.
"I do," Sam said.
"You'll be saying that soon enough, dear," Ian joked.
"Bringing us full circle," Sam stated. "So, we need to discuss expectations. What do you expect out of this wedding, Ian?"
"Sex." Ian said emphatically.
"No," Sam retorted.
"I didn't really think you'd go for it," Ian admitted.
"Then why did you ask?" Sam inquired.
"So you had no doubt about my intentions," Ian stated.
"I see. So what do you really want?" Sam asked.
"A real chance for the two of us," Ian said hopefully.
"Is that possible?" Sam wondered.
"I think so, but only you know for sure," Ian replied.
"Give me time?" Sam pleaded.
"As much as you need," Ian promised.
"Do you mean that?" Sam asked. "I can't make many promises, but nor can I deny that there's something between us."
"I rarely say things I don't mean, Samantha," Ian stated simply.
"Well, what is this then? Is it a "rare" moment, or do yo mean it?" Sam asked.
"I mean it, Sam, I really do," Ian answered.
"You know I can't promise you that this will work. Or that we can have a real chance because, though I have feelings for you, you know that I-" Sam broke off.
"Ah, yes, Detective Spencer. Is he still giving you trouble?" Ian asked.
"Do you mean: does he believe the validity of this marriage? No. But then, he still can't understand why we're marrying in the first place. Especially when he knows that I still care about him." Sam explained. "He's backed off considerably, though."
"So he IS still a problem," Ian stated with a grimace.
"Nothing I can't handle; and I expect you to stay out of it." Sam said.
I know he loves you, which makes me nervous, with how you feel about him. But I will let it go, for now," Ian replied, finishing his drink. "I'll let you get some sleep." Ian rose and Sam walked him to the door. Sam leaned forward and lightly kissed Ian on the lips.
"Just proving that I was honest about wanting to try. As long as we take it slow," Sam said with a small smile.
Ian flashed a grin. "Goodnight, Samantha," he said as he swooped in for one last peck.
"Goodnight, Ian, she replied and shut the door.

Chapter 7
Sam awoke early the next morning. As she showered, she thought about her plans for the day. "A whole day with my mom and sisters; I've been looking forward to this for awhile. I could use a day with my family, the pampering is just icing on the cake. Crap! The cake! No, no, it's covered, that's right. Mini freakout over. Phew! And, tonight, Maxie and I are going to cut loose. After all, it's my last night as a single woman!" Sam rinsed off and hopped out of the shower. She grabbed two towels, wrapping one around her body and one around her head. Sam finished her morning routine and dressed in a simple, short-sleeved, white button-down shirt and black slacks. As she slipped on her flip-flops, the doorbell rang.
Sam hurried to the door and opened it.
"Sam!" Kristina exclaimed, rushing forward.
"Hi sweetheart," Sam responded, enfolding Kristing in her arms. "How are you?"
"Fine," Kristina said.
"Hi Mom, hey there, Molly!" Sam greeted the pair.
"Hi Sam," Alexis replied, passing Molly to Sam so she could give Molly a hug.
"How are you, Mom?" Sam asked, sitting on the couch with her mother as her sisters played on the floor.
"I'm fine, Sam. What about you? Are you ready for tomorrow?" Alexis asked.
"I'm great, Mom!" Sam exclaimed.
"Alright, don't oversell it," Alexis whispered.
"What are you tlaking about?" Sam asked.
"You seem a little bouncy today," Alexis explained.
"Well, I am getting married tomorrow. Don't you think I have a right to my bounciness?" Sam deflected.
"Yes, you do. Of course, I'd feel much happier and secure about this if you weren't rushing into this marriage." Alexis responded.
"Mom, I explained this to you. I want to be with Ian, he wants to be with me, and we see no reason to wait," Sam returned.
"How about the fact that you two barely know each other?" Alexis retorted. "Or the fact that you've only been engaged a few weeks and that was the first I'd heard of your so-called relationship. Or-"
"Okay, Mom, I get it. Mom, I'm marrying Ian tomorrow and there's nothing you can do to stop me," Sam warned. "And since I get my stubbornness frm you, you know I'm right."
Sam and Alexis glared at each other for a moment. "Alright, I give. For now, but this conversation is to be continued." Alexis stated.
"I wouldn't expect anything less," Sam replied. Mother and daughter looked at each other and laughed.
"What's so funny?" Kristina asked, coming up to the adults.
"Nothing, sweetie," Alexis and Sam said in unison. They looked at each other and laughed again.
"We'd better get going," Alexis said. "We don't want to be late for our appointment."
"You're right. Come on, girls, it's time for some pampering." Sam said as she stood.
"But Sam, I'm a big girl. I don't need Pampers anymore," Kristina complained.
"No, honey," Sam replied with a chuckle. "I know you don't wear diapers anymore. Pampering is when you lets someone take really good care of you. Today, we're going to have a day of beauty."
"That's right," Alexis added. "Pedicures, manicures, facials, and maybe a massage."
"That sounds okay, I guess," Kristina said hesitantly.
"Okay?" Sam responded. "We're gonna have lots of fun!"
"Okay, Sam," Kristina said.
"Alright, let's move on out." Alexis said, herding the girls to the door.
Let me grab my keys," Sam said, picking up her purse and dropping her keys inside. She closed the door behind her and locked it.
********************************************************************
The Davis girls arrived at the spa, ready for their day of beauty. As Molly and Kristina had mani-pedis and facials, Sam and Alexis had a relaxing massage.
"We still need to talk, Sam," Alexis said as the masseuse worked on her.
"If this is the birds and the bees talk, sorry, Mom, but I don't need to hear it." Sam joked.
"Funny girl. But you know exactly what I'm talking about," Alexis replied.
"I told you I'm not changing my mind," Sam said. "And I certainly don't want to discuss it here and now."
"Fine. We'll talk later." Alexis conceded. "What are your plans later?"
"Maxie's coming by for a girls' night out, but we won't be out too late with the wedding tomorrow. We'd call it a bachelorette party but it's just the two of us." Sam admitted.
"I'm sure you'll have fun. Are you going anywhere?" Alexis asked innocently, an idea forming in her head.
"Probably just to Jake's to shoot some pool after dinner," Sam answered. "We don't want to look like hags tomorrow by staying out until dawn."
"Be careful," Alexis warned.
"We always are," Sam reassured her mother. The two women finished their massages and went for their manicures and pedicures, followed by facials. They met Kristina and Molly, who finished early, in the children's play area.
"Mom! Sam!" Kristina yelled from across the room as she raced towards them, Molly in tow.
"Hi sweetie, slow down," Alexis said. Sam laughed as she caught Molly and picked her up.
"Look, Mommy! Our fingers and toes look pretty!" Kristina exclaimed.
"They sure do," Alexis responded.
"Yes, they do." Sam agreed. Did you have fun, Molly?"
"Yeah," Molly said shyly.
"Good." Sam said. "What do you say we take our pretty toes and get some lunch?"
"Yay! I'm hungry," Kristina said.
"Me too," Molly piped up.
"Okay, let's eat," Alexis said. They left the spa and headed to Kelly's for lunch.
********************************************************************
After lunch, the Davis girls made their way back to Sam's apartment. Alexis and Sam put Kristina and Molly down for a nap in the bedroom. They kissed each little girl on the forehead, quietly closed the door, and went into the living room.
"Okay, Mom," Sam said resignedly. "Let me have it."
"Thanks, I will! I don't know why you're rushing into this. And don't give that same 'this is what we want' and 'we don't see a reason to wait' spiel." Alexis began.
"Fine, I won't. You know I love hard, and when I fall, I fall just as hard; you've seen it before. So why is it so difficult to understand?" Sam asked. "We just want to be together."
"Don't deflect, Sam," Alexis replied.
"I love who I am when I'm with him. And I love who I could be; not just for myself, but for all the people I love and want to keep safe and happy." Sam said honestly.
"How do you know he's the one?" asked Alexis.
"I just do. I just know this is right," Sam answered.
"You believed the same thing about Jason," Alexis reminded Sam.
"I also believed Jason could keep me and those I love safe. I was wrong," Sam admitted.
"You might be wrong again," Alexis warned.
"It's a risk I have to take so I can be happy," Sam replied.
"Does he make you happy?" Alexis inquired.
"He can," Sam said enigmatically.
"But are you happy?" Alexis pressed. Sam looked Alexis in the eye.
"Yes, marrying Ian, knowing I'll be surrounded by the people I love and who love me, makes me happy." Sam said honestly. Alexis was silent.
"Okay. I'm still don't like it, but okay," Alexis finally said.
"So, no last minute protest after you walk me down the aisle?" Sam teased.
"No, I'll be good. I promise," Alexis swore.
"Could you try to rein Nik in as well?" Sam entreated.
"Is he giving you a hard time because of Lucky?" Alexis asked.
"Lucky's not the only reason, but yes; nothing I can't handle." Sam admitted. "But I'd like him muzzled for the ceremony, just in case."
Alexis laughed. "I'll do my best," she said.
Alexis and Sam continued talking for a half anhour. Then, they rose and woke up Sam's sisters so Alexis could take them home.
As the foursome stood at the door, Kristina tugged on Sam's pants.
"Yes, honey?" Sam bent downto address Kristina.
"Are you spending the night with us, Sam?" Kristina asked.
"No sweetheart. Maxie's coming over for some best friend time. We'll havea sleepover soon, though. Okay?" Sam replied. Kristina nodded. "I'll see you at the wedding tomorrow."
"It's gonna be fun!" Kristina said.
"Yes, it is," Alexis interjected. "Time to go, girls." Sam and Alexis embraced, then Sam kissed each sister goodbye.
"Bye Kristina, bye Molly! I'll see you tomorrow." Sam said. "Bye Mom, thanks for today," she added.
Alexis hugged Sam one last time. "Have fun tonight, kiddo. Be safe!" she admonished.
"We will be. Bye," Sam replied.
"Bye Sam," Alexis said and left with Kristina and Molly.
********************************************************************
Sam decided to work out after her family went home. She set up her punching bag and began exercising. An hour later, a sweaty Sam headed to the shower.
Twenty minutes later, as she wrapped a towel around her hair, the doorbell rang. "Who could that be?" Sam wondered, looking at the clock. "Maxie isn't due for at least an hour, maybe she's early."
Sam threw on her short, white robe and hurried to the door. She opened the door a crack, and, seeing who was there, promptly closed it again. The visitor pounded on the door; Sam could hear him clearly through the wood.
"I'm not going anywhere until I talk to you, Sam! I mean it, I'll do this all night!"
Sam opened her door wide, thoroughly annoyed.
"What the hell do you want, Jason?" she snapped.

Chapter 8
"I want to talk to you." Jason said stoically.
"I have nothing to say to you," Sam replied.
"Then, you can listen," Jason said, entering her apartment.
Sam slammed the door. "Come on in, why don't you?" she said sarcastically. "I'll ask you again, what do you want?"
"You can't marry Ian," Jason stated.
"The time when you could tell me what to do has long passed, Jason. If that's all you came to say, then get out." Sam answered.
"I'm serious, Sam. You can't marry Ian," Jason reiterated.
"And why not?" Sam scoffed.
"He's dangerous," Jason stated.
"So are you, Jason. Try again," Sam said.
"I think he killed someone," Jason admitted.
"Hello, pot? Meet kettle. You're black!" Sam shot back.
"What can I say to convince you to not marry him?" Jason asked, frustrated.
"How about giving the truth a chance? I know you're used to lying to me, but give it the old school try anyway." Sam replied.
"The truth? I don't think you love him," Jason said.
"I don't think it's any of your business," Sam retorted.
"I just want you to be happy, Sam," Jason said earnestly.
"Since when?" Sam questioned.
"Always, Sam" Jason replied. Sam rolled her eyes. "Why would you marry someone you don't love, Sam?"
"Just because you don't think I love him, doesn't make it true." Sam asid.
"I've always known when you're lying to me, Sam." Jason pushed.
"You're lying to yourself," Sam replied. "It's fine, better than me. Your truth has always been subjective at any rate."
"I care about you, Sam." Jason said.
"Now who can't stop lying," Sam said with a smirk.
"I'm not lying," Jason swore.
"You're not telling the truth either," Sam said.
"The truth is, I don't trust Ian. The truth is that I think you're in over your head," Jason said passionately. "The truth is I don't want you to marry him because I think you'll end up hurting. The truth is I never thought this day would come."
"What are you talking about, Jason?" Sam inquired, utterly confused.
"I never thought I'd see the day you married another man," Jason admitted.
"And I never thought I'd see the day you'd hurt me as much as you did," Sam returned. "It's life, it hurts. Suck it up! Just like I had to with Elizabeth. At least I had the decency to break up with my significant other before starting a new relationship. Unlike you."
"That isn't fair, Sam." Jason said.
"You lied, Jason. You, not me. You don't have the right to interfere in my life just because you and Lizzie couldn't make things work." Sam answered.
A knock sounded at the door. Sam glanced at Jason and answered it. Maxie swooped into the apartment.
"Hello Sam! You look...not ready," Maxie began, then noticed Jason standing there. "What's going on here? Is someone trying to talk you into a hot, pre-wedded bliss hookup?"
"No, Maxie," Sam said with a laugh.
"No!" Jason exclaimed.
"Then what are you doing here, St. Jasus?" Maxie inquired innocently.
"That's none of your business," Jason replied curtly.
"Fine, don't tell me. Sam will fill me in later anyways," Maxie dismissed Jason.
"No, she won't; not if I don't want her to," Jason stated rudely.
"Hello? 'She' is still in the room. And Jason, you don't tell me what to do or speak to Maxie that way in my home." Sam interjected angrily.
"Sam, I'm just doing what's best," Jason said condescendingly.
Yeah, what's best for you. At least Maxie was invited into my home. I think you need to leave," Sam added.
"Sam-" Jason began.
"Just go, Jason," Sam said. Jason looked at Sam for a long moment, then turned on his heel and left.
"Wow, that was all kinds of fun that wasn't," Maxie commented. Sam laughed.
"Yeah, but at least he's gone," she said.
"Go get dressed, girl," Maxie urged. "We've got some partying to do after dinner."
Sam hurried to her bedroom, Maxie on her heels, and threw open closet door, searching for an outfit.
"So, what did tall, stoic, and brooding want?" Maxie asked.
"The usual," Sam replied. "You can't marry Ian, blah, blah blah."
"He still wants you," Maxie said.
"No, he wants to control me, there's a big difference," Sam answered. "And I'll never let that happen again."
"So, why are you marrying Ian?" Maxie asked.
"Because it's what I want," Sam said.
"You know that's not a good enough answer; and don't even try that 'I love him' crap, because that's exactly what it is--crap!" Maxie retorted.
"Maxie-" Sam started.
"No! You said we would talk, so talk!" Maxie insisted.
Sam whirled around. "Can't you just trust that I'm doing the right thing?" she pleaded.
"What do you mean 'you're doing the right thing'?" Maxie prodded.
"That's not what I meant," Sam backpedalled.
"It's what you said, now spill!" Maxie pushed.
"I can't."
"Yes, you can. Tell me, Sam," Maxie said.
"No, I really can't. I can tell you that you're right and you're wrong." Sam explained. "We're trying to have a real relationship here."
"Ok. Obviously, you're being forced into this marriage. Yeah, don't even think for one second that I didn't figure that out. Yet, you're trying to have the real thing?" Maxie said, confused.
"I feel a connection to him, Maxie. I can't exxplain it, but it's there." Sam admitted.
"Yeah, it's called hot sex and you want to get you some more of that." Maxie teased.
"Maxie!" Sam exclaimed.
"What? It's true."
"Maybe it is, but that's not what I meant." Sam answered with a smirk. "There's just something about Ian, something that goes beyond attraction."
"I know you two slept together, but you never gave me details," Maxie complained. "Is he at least good in bed?"
"Which time?" Sam said with a smirk, remembering her first time with Ian.
Flashback:
She had just broken things off for good with Lucky. She couldn't take his lack of trust anymore. And when he accused her of sleeping with Ian, all based on Elizabeth's exaggerations, she was done.
"You've shown you don't trust me, Lucky." Sam said with a sigh.
"I do trust you, Sam. I believe you." Lucky answered.
"No, you don't . Or we wouldn't be here right now, arguing. You believed Liz so quickly because you wanted to believe her." Sam replied. "I deserve better. I can't do this anymore, Lucky. I'm done."
"Sam, I love you," Lucky said.
"No, there is no love without trust," Sam said sadly and walked away.
"This isn't over!" Lucky called after her.
"Yes, it is!" Sam's reply came floating back.
Sam made her way to Jake's. She just wanted to be numb, yet another man in her life who didn't trust her, and who she couldn't trust with her heart. She walked in and sat at the bar, ordering a shot of whiskey.
"Leave the bottle," she said as Coleman began to move away. As he did, someone sat next to her. She looked over, it was Ian Devlin.
"You don't look happy, Samantha," Ian said.
"Well, I was just accused of cheating by my boyfriend--excuse me, my ex-boyfriend--so, I wanted to unwind." Sam replied.
"Why would he think that?" Ian asked.
"Well, his bitch of an ex-wife, decided to tell him that you and I were practically fucking at the nurses' station." Sam explained. "He chose to believe her, big surprise."
"Elizabeth was there? I didn't notice." Ian said.
Sam laughed. "Would you like a drink?" she asked.
"Don't mind if I do," Ian said. They finished off the bottle, and a fresh one. They looked at each other, their eyes slumberous, and knew what was coming next. Ian spoke with Coleman and returned with a room key. They made their way upstairs.
When they reached the door, Ian opened it and waved Sam inside. After he entered, Sam shut and locked the door behind him. She turned around, and his mouth was there, on hers, demanding entrance, his hands holding her face.
Sam pulled Ian close, her her hands caressing his back, her tongue intwined with his, her eyes sliding shut. Ian pressed Sam against the door, sliding his hands into her hair. He tightened his grip, pulling her head to one side as he began planting open-mouthed kisses up her neck. Sam moaned and opened her eyes, pushing Ian off her slightly.
"What? What's wrong?" Ian asked.
"Nothing," Sam whispered, taking his shirt in her hands and ripping it open, sending buttons flying around the room. She quickly stripped him of his undershirt, grazing his nipples with her nails. Ian hissed, then moved into action. He pulled Sam's tank top over her head, and reached behind her to unsnap her bra. Sam took it off, standing in front of him.
Ian reached out, a reverent look in his eyes, holding the heavy globes in his hands. "You are so beautiful," he said. He lightly flicked one nipple. Sam moaned. He gave it a gentle roll between his fingers, watching as it hardened even more.
"Mmm, Ian," Sam sighed. He tugged on her nipple with one hand, while his mouth found the other, licking and kissing it. Sam held tight to the back of Ian's head, wanting more. "More," she breathed. Ian lifted his head, and kissed her, his hand sliding up her thigh. He traced the line of her panties before lightly passing over the damp cloth between her legs. Sam shuddered and spread her legs a little wider.
"Ian, stop teasing," she pleaded.
"You don't like to be teased?" he asked, his fingers slowly, lightly, stroking her through her panties. Sam reached out and gave his nipple a firm twist. Ian groaned, his eyes darkening in passion.
"I don't want to be teased right now," Sam urged.
Ian pulled away slightly and knelt down. He ran his hands up Sam's thighs to her panties, stripping them swiftly away. Sam stepped out of them, kicking the underwear out of their way. Ian stood, taking Sam into his arms.
"I want you now, Ian," Sam said.
"You do? What if I want to play?" Ian asked, his hand trailing under Sam's skirt and grasping her thigh, resting it against his hip. His hand traced back to her mons, lightly brushing over it. Without warning, he plunged a finger in.
"Oh God!" Sam screamed.
"Oh, you are ready for me, aren't you?" Ian said with a slight smirk. "So wet and warm, you gonna let me in?"
Sam lowered her leg. "Two can play at this game," she said. She quickly removed Ian's belt and unzipped his pants. Sam plunged her hand inside and grasped his penis firmly. "This is what I want. Now!" she ordered.
Ian smirked, then gasped, as Sam began pumping him.
"Oh yeah, just like that," Ian said. Sam's hand moved slowly over Ian's cock, teasing him the way he did her. She reached up with her other hand and gave his nipple a flick. Ian groaned. She did it again. Ian groaned again and stepped back. He removed his pants and boxers with haste, kicking off his shoes as he went. He pressed Sam's back against the door, kissing her passionately.
Ian wrapped his arms around Sam's waist and lifted her. She wrapped her legs around his waist as he adjusted his position, his hands resting on her bare ass.
"Are you ready?" Ian asked.
"Yes," Sam breathed. "Please."
Ian positioned himself at her opening, sliding Sam down as he thrust up.
"Oh god!" Sam groaned.
"Holy shit," Ian exclaimed. "You feel so good, Sam." He began to move, slowly at first; each thrust deeper than the last. Sam could feel the cold door against her back while Ian continued fucking her. "You feel so good," he repeated as he moved within her.
"Oh! So do you. Mmmm, Ian," Sam said, barely able to talk. Ian pounded into Sam, the door rattling with the force.
"I'm close, Sam, oh god," Ian tried to hold on. He slipped his hand between their bodies, and gave Sam's clit a firm twist.
"Ohhhhh!" Sam screamed as she came.
"Arrggggggghh!" Ian growled, tumbling after Sam. They rested against the door for a minute, then Ian carried Sam to the bed where they collapsed.
End Flashback
"Sam? Sam! SAM!"
"What?" Sam asked Maxie.
"I've been calling your name for the past five minutes! You were off in your own little world," Maxie complained.
"Sorry, Maxie." Sam apologized. "I'll tell you this much about Ian: he was amazing!"
"Now are you ready to tell me the rest?" Maxie pushed.
"Give me a break, Maxie," Sam pleaded.
"I'm not going to stop, you know that." Maxie warned.
"You have to. I will tell you what I can, when I can." Sam promised.
"Are you in danger?" Maxie asked worriedly.
"As long as Ian and I marry tomorrow, we both should be fine." Sam answered.
"Cryptic much?" Maxie said.
"It's better this way." Sam admitted.
"If you don't tell me what's going on soon, Sam, you know I'll take matters into my own hands." Maxie warned Sam again.
"Don't get involved, Maxie," Sam said.
"I'm already involved, you're my best friend," Maxie said simply.
"You're the best. Fine, just don't do anything stupid," Sam replied. When it's time, I'll tell you everything. I promise."
"Fine. Hurry up and get ready. I'm hungry." Maxie replied with a pout.

Chapter 9
Sam exited the bedroom in a short black dress and killer three-inch heels.
"Satisified?" she asked Maxie, giving a little twirl.
"Finally!" Maxie huffed. "I ordered from Baldi's...I wanted Italian."
"That's fine with me," Sam said. "How long until it arrives?"
"Twenty minutes. You took your own sweet time getting ready," Maxie complained.
"Sorry, hon. Would you like a glass of wine?" Sam inquired.
"Yes, please." Sam poured two glasses and the women chatted while they waited for dinner.
"Yay! Food!" Maxie exclaimed when the doorbell rang. She opened the door with a flourish. "You aren't our food." she said, blocking the doorway.
Sam looked up to see who was at the door. It was Lucky.
"No, we are NOT doing this," she said, irritated.
"C'mon, Sam, just two minutes." Lucky pleaded.
"Go away, Lucky," Sam said.
"It isn't that easy to get rid of me, Sam." Lucky said.
"It should be tonight of all nights," Sam replied. "If you have any respect for me, you'll go home."
"Please, Sam," Lucky said.
"I can't do this, and I don't want to," Sam admitted.
"We're not done, Sam," Lucky warned.
"I'm getting married tomorrow, Lucky. We're finished." Sam answered.
"I'll find a way," Lucky promised.
"Just go," Sam said with a sigh.
After Lucky left, Maxie piped up. "You still love him, don't you?"
"I still have feelings for him. But is it love? I don't know. It wouldn't change anything." Sam admitted. "I'm marrying Ian tomorrow. It doesn't matter."
"It does, Sam," Maxie replied.
"Not really. Whatever I feel for Lucky doesn't change my situation. And those emotions don't negate whatever it is I'm feeling about Ian." Sam answered, honestly.
The doorbell rang again. Luckily for the duo, it was their food. Sam paid for it, despite Maxie's attempts to pass her money.
"It's okay, Maxie. You're on drinks tonight, and I drink like a fish!" Sam said with a grin.
"You're in a pretty good mood despite the uninvited guest," Maxie stated, plating the food.
Sam shook her head and chuckled. "I can't freak out every time an ex comes by," Sam replied. "Since Ian and I announced our engagement, they've been coming out of the woodwork."
"What do you mean?" Maxie asked as she and Sam began to eat.
"Well, you usually see the end of my confrontations with Jason and Lucky," Sam began. "Actually, you've come quite in handy in ending those conversations when you visit. So, thank you!"
"You're welcome!" Maxie replied.
"But you've been fortunate to miss the calm, I-know-what's-best-and-what-does-your-mother-think? lecture by Jax; and the glass-throwing, what-the-fuck-are-you-thinking? diatribe I heard from Sonny." Sam finished.
"Has it been that bad?" Maxie asked, taking a bite of pasta.
"Yes! Almost every single day one of those men tries to talk me out of this wedding." Sam said, exasperated. "It makes me glad we're marrying so soon, I might kill one of them if we had a long engagement."
"But that's nothing compared to Jerry," Sam continued, topping off their wine.
"Jerry Jax?" Maxie exclaimed. "Or should I say, Mr. Craig?"
"Whatever you want to call him," Sam said with a shrug. "He seems to think that between dating my mom and holding me hostage, we formed a bond." Sam rolled her eyes. "You'd think he was trying to play daddy."
"Men suck," Maxie said commiseratingly.
"Strangely enough, not Ric," Sam admitted.
"Really?" asked Maxie.
"Yeah, I was watching Molly one day and he came by to pick her up. He told me he wanted to talk about Ian and my upcoming wedding," Sam said.
"What did he say?" Maxie wanted to know.
"He sat me down and said, 'Look, Sam, I don't claim to be the one who knows you best. But we share a talent for self-destruction. If you tell me that's not what this is about, I'll believe you. And I'll know the truth.'" Sam started.
"I asked him, 'What truth?'. He said that he knew the look I got in my eyes when I'm in protective mode; and that he hadn't seen me without that look since he saw the ring on my finger." Sam finished.
"Wow, that's just...wow." Maxie said softly.
"I know, especially when you consider our tumultuous history," Sam said. "We ended up talking for about an hour, really laying some issues to rest."
"That's good. You need a civil relationship with your sister's father." Maxie said.
"It's funny, he's the only one who knows the truth, besides you, of course." Sam said, finishing off her salad.
"You told him the truth? You haven't given ME full details, yet," Maxie said, shocked.
"Ric figured it out himself; not everything, but enough." Sam said. She took a final bite of her pasta. "Enough of this, I only want happy thoughts for the rest of the night."
"Sounds like it's time to go to Jake's," Maxie announced.
"Let's do it," Sam replied. The best friends cleaned up their dinner remains, freshened up, and were out the door minutes later.
********************************************************************
"Whoo-hoo!" Maxie yelled, taking a shot of Jack Daniels. She'd failed to sink her shot in pool and found herself paying the price.
Sam laughed. "I am whipping your ass," she teased. "And we've only been here about an hour."
"Maybe we can improve your odds, Maxie." The girls whirled around to see Alexis and Diane standing there, smiling.
"Hey, Mom! Hi Diane, what are you doing here?" Sam asked, giving her mom a hug.
"We thought you wouldn't mind a couple lawyers cutting loose with you," Alexis said.
"I'm so glad you're here, both of you." Sam replied.
"Are you sure?" Diane asked.
"Positive. This can only get better," Sam assured her with a smile.
"Ditto on that one," Maxie agreed. "The more the merrier! Pull up a drink."
"Don't mind if I do," Diane said, and headed to the bar to grab drinks for Alexis and herself.
Sam quickly beat Maxie at pool and grabbed her beer, finishing it off as well.
********************************************************************
Coleman heard a whoop coming from one of the tables. He turned in time to see Alexis Davis take a shot of tequila; Diane and Maxie were laughing and cheering her on while Sam had a look of shock on her face.
"Way to go, Alexis!" Maxie cheered.
"You'd be surprised at what this woman can do," Diane said.
"Not anymore,' said Sam. "Nothing about my mom could shock me after that. Seriously, Mom...TMI."
"TMI?" Diane and Alexis asked.
"Too much information!" Sam and Maxie said in unison.
"Oh, okay. Ready for one more round?" Alexis asked.
"I don't know if my sanity can take it," Sam teased.
"Don't be a party pooper," Diane said.
"Fine, but this is the last one," Sam replied. "I need my beauty rest for tomorrow."
"I've got a great one!" Maxie exclaimed. She leanedover and whispered in Diane's ear.
Diane laughed long and hard. "That's perfect!" Diane sputtered.
"Would you like to share with the rest of the class?" Alexis inquired.
Diane and Maxie exchanged glances.
"Okay, I'll do it," Maxie said. "I never slept with two brothers."
Sam and Alexis started laughing, but took their shot. Diane swiftly followed.
"Diane!" Alexis exclaimed.
"What? It was college," Diane explained. "Besides, Maxie said it wrong." She refilled the shot glasses.
"What was she supposed to say?" Sam asked. "Because that was bad enough!"
"I never slept with two brothers that a family member has also slept with," Diane replied.
Sam and Alexis took their shots.
"That was unfair," Alexis complained.
"Yes, it was, darling," came an accented voice from behind them. "Terribly unfair." It was Jerry Jax.
"What are you doing here?" Alexis hissed.
"I've come to see you home safely," Jerry responded calmly. "After all, you shouldn't be driving, darling; it wouldn't do for you to get into an accident."
"I'd planned to take a taxi home, Jerry," Alexis said.
"Why ride in smelly cab when you have your own personal chauffeur at no cost?" Jerry asked.
"Don't fall for his charm, Alexis," Diane warned.
"Oh, Ms. Miller, I believe your escort has arrived as well." Jerry said, spotting Max.
Max strode into the bar and made a beeline for Diane. He scooperd her up over his shoulder and walked away without saying a word. Alexis hurried after them and pressed Diane's purse into her hands.
"Call me!" Alexis whispered.
"Will do," Diane said with a smirk. "Goodnight, ladies, see you tomorrow!" she called as she was carried outisde.
"Goodnight, Diane!" Sam called.
"Have fun!" Maxie yelled.
"I believe that is our cue as well," Jerry said to Alexis.
Alexis looked at Sam. "Go ahead, Mom. Maxie and I can catch a cab," Sam said.
"Are you sure?" Alexis asked.
"Positive. I'll see you tomorrow." Sam assured her.
"Alright. Good night, honey," Alexis said, giving Sam a hug.
"Good night, Mom; good-bye Jerry," Sam said.
"Bye Maxie, I'm glad you're Sam's friend." Alexis said, giving Maxie a quick hug.
"Bye Alexis," Maxie said. "Bye Alexis' man."
"Good night, ladies," Jerry said as he and Alexis left.
"Looks like it's just you and me kid," Maxie said in a bad accent.
"Sam laughed and finished her beer. "Let's get out of here," she said.
"Okay, I'm going to ride with you to your place, then head home." Maxie said.
"You know you can stay with me, right?" Sam offered.
"Nah. I need to sleep in my own bed tonight," Maxie explained. "Thanks anyway."
The two hailed a cab. Maxie made sure Sam had entered her apartment building before instructing the cabbie to take her home.
********************************************************************
Sam entered her apartment and headed straight for a bottle of water. She was just a little past tipsy, not fully drunk; but she had cotton mouth. As she finished the bottle, the doorbell rang.
"Who could that be?" Sam thought to herself as she headed to the door. Maybe Maxie changed her mind about staying over." Sam opened the door and saw Lucky standing there.
"I told you we weren't done," Lucky began.
"Lucky, I am not in the mood," Sam said.
"For the record, I went home. But I had to come back," Lucky admitted. "Just give me five minutes."
"Fine. Five minutes," Sam said as she opened the door wider to allow Lucky inside. "Start talking."
"Please don't marry him, Sam," Lucky pleaded. "I love you."
"So does Ian," Sam said evenly.
"Do you love him?" Lucky challenged Sam.
"That's none of your business anymore, Lucky," Sam said.
"That's not a 'yes'," Lucky crowed.
"It isn't a 'no', either." Sam rejoined.
Lucky tried another tack. "You have to know he'll only hurt you, Sam."
"No, I don't know that," she replied.
"Do you really think he loves you?" Lucky scoffed.
"I know he does," Sam said, turning away.
"But does he love you enough?" Lucky asked.
"What do you mean?" she wondered.
Lucky came up behind Sam and placed his hands on her shoulders.
"Does he love all of you?" he asked, stroking her arms. "Does he know how to love you right?" Lucky kissed her neck. "Does he know about this spot?" he asked, flicking her ear with his tongue. Sam moaned softly. "Or this one?" he continued, kissing the sensitive skin behind her ear. Sam began to breathe heavily.
Lucky moved his hands to the back of her dress, slowly unzipping it. He stepped back slightly to let it pool on the floor. Sam stepped out of it, and Lucky pulled her tightly against him.
"Let me love you, Sam," he whispered in her ear.
"Lucky, I-" Sam struggled.
Lucky spun Sam around and crushed their lips together. Sam was lost, she couldn't do anything but feel. Lucky swept Sam up in his arms and carried her to the bedroom.
He set her down on the bedspread and stepped back, admiring her beauty. She looked like a siren, her dark hair spread on the pillow beneath. Her body was exquisite covered only by a strapless, satin black bra and matching panties. And those heels, of course. Lucky knelt on the bed, removing Sam's shoes; he kissed each toe before setting down her foot. He looked into Sam's dark eyes before removing his shirt.
Sam reached out for him. Lucky crawled up the bed, covering her body with his. Their lips met, tongues searching, as they stroked each other. Lucky rolled over, bring Sam on top of him so he could remove her bra. He kneaded her breasts, planting gentle kisses on the slopes before suckling each nipple in turn. Sam moaned, moving her hands to his pants. She undid his belt and unfastened his pants. Lucky paused to undress himself fully.
He climbed back onto the bed, and partially covered Sam's body. He teased her clit through her panties with one finger until she was begging for more. Lucky slowly removed her panties, and tested her readiness. He gave a groan when he saw how much she wanted him. Sam grabbed Lucky's arm and pulled him the rest of the way up her body. They looked into each other's eyes, and kissed gently.
Lucky poised himself outside her entrance. "Sam?" he said, looking into her eyes.
"Lucky, please," Sam pleaded.
"Look at me." he commanded and she complied. "I love you," he said as he entered her in one push.
Sam's eyes widened as she moaned, adjusting to the fullness. Lucky began to thrust slowly inside her, her hips bucked in response. He picked up the pace, thrusting deeper and harder inside her; Sam felt her orgasm swelling.
"Lucky!" she screamed.
"Sam!" Lucky roared, as he also found completion.
The couple collapsed, limbs entwined.
"I love you, Sam," Lucky said, pulling her closer.
"I love you too, Lucky," Sam responded. She lay there while Lucky quickly fell asleep.
"But I think I'm falling for Ian." she whispered to herself. Sam drifted off to sleep, still confused.
