Barack Hussein Obama wins the election.
To me it doesn't matter if you voted for him or not. The fact that for the first time in over 200 years an American-American is President of the United States.
That is a victory for America, history in the making.
I tell Reyna she can be anything she wants to be, but now I can show her his picture as proof. We've been telling our kids for years they could be President, but most of us did not think we would see it in our life time. I was so sure I was going to see a woman president, but not a minority. I've always though because she's biracial she would have to work 20 times harder just to get ahead. This changes that for her and for all minority kids. Up until now to us the Presidents were stuffy old white people, we never saw us in there.
He is the reality of the promise of America. His father is from Africa, he grew up poor and look at him now.
I'm looking at the affect that this is having in the world and I'm loving it. To see people from all over the world celebrate with us, it's changing how they see us.
I was watching it unfold with my husband, I looked at him and said Dr Martin Luther King would be proud right now. We both though about the history we learned on him in school. We weren't there to see that happen, but we're here now. All of us, we're all now a family. I saw Jesse Jackson crying, and I teared up, he was there to see it all. The moment he had waited for his whole life came to be. Truth be told he would rather be in Baracks shoe's.
My mother in law is from Mississippi and she's 75, she remembers having to go to the colored water fountain. She remembers having to go to the back of the bus and the back of the restaurant. She went to an all black school, but because of lack of money she was pulled out in 2nd grade to raise the kids. She grew up and was very smart and set herself up for life. Her grandmother that she was very close to was a slave. She stated to me that this heals alot in the African-American community.
I love the fact that race didn't really play a factor for the voters. This shows me that we are embracing one and other. We're maturing and looking at each other as people and not race.
I now more than ever feel proud to be an American (for the record I have always been a proud American, just more so now)
I was cleaning up my kitchen at about 3:00 and I looked out my window and saw 4 black kids with with Obama signs, cars were honking and those kids would cheer like you would not believe. I don't think they fully grasp what's happening here, but they know it's something special. When their mom called them in the house they were mad. They went in the house and got flashlights. They made sure to sexure the signs, they they put the flashlights infront. Cars were still honking after the kids went inside, once in a while the kids would pop out their head and cheered at the honks.
That's what I'm talking about right there, our kids see things different already. I'm 29 and I've never seen any minority kid do that. My husband drove by our old house and he saw the same thing corner after corner.
Thank you Barack for making this kind of positive inpact for our kids.
I woke up and just felt better all the way around. A huge weight has been lifted off my shoulders. It may not be an easy road, America has a lot of problems and it needs to be fixed. All I know is that I see a light at the end of the tunnel.
Sorry guys, I wasn't trying to write a book here. I just couldn't stop

No need to apologize for expressing your feelings. As a biracial woman, this moment seems almost surreal. I bawled when I saw Rev. Jesse Jackson with tears streaming down his face. My mom cried, my sister & I just gaped in pleased astonishment. I can't believe this moment is finally here, & I'm proud to be an American.
As my boyfriend said last night, "For the first time ever, I can say this (b/c I'll mean it): God Bless America!"

I'm still jumping with joy that he won! This is a moment in history that will never be forgotten. Some people don't like it but can't seem to get past his skin color and that's a real shame.

Re: Barack Hussein Obama wins the election.
I cried like a baby during his victory speech & I have been walking on air today. To me, the historical ramifications of electing the 1st African American are huge, & I am honored to be among those who cast a vote for him, but it about so much more. The fact that this country banded together, & elected an Anti-war, pro-environment president is a huge point of pride for me.

I'm still collecting my emotions on it all. Once I get my thoughts together I will post...but I think you all already know how I feel.

I'm just happy that most Americans didn't notice the color of his skin. I'm elated that most Americans picked him because he's the best person for the job.
Yes, LG.
He cares about all the things I care about and like Mr Powell said, Obama knows that every village is important.

I didn't see this post til now.... so I am a lil late LOL
Even though I did not vote for Barrack Obama I am extremely proud that our country voted based on policy and not skin color. A, your post was awesome and very moving. When I talked to my kids wednesday morning they asked if I was angry that Obama won. I told them as in any election the majority wins and although I have a different viewpoint than others there is no need to be angry but to work together as our politicians will have to do as well. I also reminded them of the significant and important place we are in history. Many never believed this day would come and like A, I believe that it has opened the door for so many. My brother joked that he will be the first Somoan president now LOL.
So great job America and now hopefully our political parties can stop the "blame" game and make some responsible decisions together that will help our country heal and stop this downward spiral.
